Kick your shoes off, close your eyes...
From “Have You Ever Been Mellow”, lyrics.
“Never had time to lay back, kick your shoes off, close your eyes
I was like you,
Now you’re not hard to understand, You need someone to take your hand…
wanna dance with somebody

The song ‘Wanna Dance With Somebody’ as sung by Whitney Houston goes:
Clock strikes upon the hour
And the sun begins to fade
Still enough time to figure out
How to chase my blues away
Ive done alright up till now
Its the light of day that shows me how
And when the night falls the loneliness calls,
Chorus:
Oh I wanna dance with somebody
I wanna feel the heat with somebody
Yeah I wanna dance with somebody
With somebody who loves me….
Lately, more often than not, my dance partner need not be somebody who loves me, or even knows me. I just want to dance with somebody.
whatever happened to july

Another Summer month evaporates. Fall semester soon begins, students and faculty returning too.
Whatever happened to July? Absorbed in lunch time hiking, on-line dating, cell phone pix, just to name a few.
There’s been some prospects. We all like Jazz, and regardless of who initiates, interest fizzles after a few e-mails.
One invites to dinner, miles, miles away. One in hott pursuit, has dropped out; and doesn’t answer his cell.
I’m still reserved, yet easily charmed by their handsome smiles. Very intrigued by the tales of self we all can spin.
Once in a while, will venture out to mingle and be more sociable. Attending dances or festivals, keeping ‘joy’ within.
Maybe next time, I’ll break away from my friends, go to the party solo, park at the bar, daring to promote, me -
Maybe next time, to capture some interest, will flirt with words, smile with the eyes, and get offered coffee.
Whatever happened to July? The month that I favor, for it’s warmth, downtime, county fairs and picnics.
Still a chance for a Summer sashay along the beach or a sweet salsa on the dance floor. Better make it quick,
For the pre-season is upon us and you know what that means. Some guys will be enthralled with NFL fantasy picks.
imperfection

My skin’s not baby smooth, the hair’s not silky long.
My eyes shine bright, and legs though thick are strong.
A smile that welcomes you, that yearns for many hugs.
Please don’t pass me by, or park the eyes upon da milk jugs.

A Father’s Day Tribute

I’LL ALWAYS LOVE MY FATHER
(Father’s Day tribute, begun in a familiar tune)
I’ll always love my Father; we were his favorite girls.
I’ll always love my Father; helped bring us to this world.
A father’s love is so special; still something that’s hard to describe.
The kind of love that’s stayed with me; long after his Earthly goodbye.
Sometimes I’m quite confused, thinking of all that used to be.
How Daddy put up with fussing, just to spend time with Sis and Me.
Didn’t appreciate that Daddy survived through toil and strife,
Being a ‘Colored’ city cop; after conquering the Army life!
From him I inherited a few traits; like putting to paper, the unspoken;
Or making acronyms of license plates; and trying to repair the broken.
He loved Music and Sports like me. Neither of us were cut from early risers;
I don’t have his towering Leadership, or his quiet reserve; often the family’s tranquilizer.
I’ll always miss my Father; I thank him for his strength, laughter and Love!
And I know he’s keeping up with the Browns’ seated in an armchair, way, way up above!
How do you start your day?

How do you start your day? With coffee, tea, or fresh squeezed juice? And for lunch, how about the local deli? When tummy growls are on the loose.
Don’t walk by the little shops, the local flavors of the town.
Drop in sometime, spread the news, enjoy fresh coffee grounds.
Yet another small business was lost to the landlord’s American dream? The Coffee Shop did not fit into grandiose expansion scheme
(
With plenty of beverages, pastries and sandwiches to go around -The Shop thrived for thirteen years in the bustling Campus town.
It was a small shop, with a big heart, place to conversate in small numbers. To not have that for the regulars (folks from all backgrounds) will be a bummer.
Some of the faithful patrons bid farewell on an appropriately ‘cloudy’ last day. ‘No charge for anything!’ and as always was offered his gracious ‘Have a Good Day’.
- Please support the local small businesses too!
3rd String; 5th Wheel

Happy Friday the 13th! Thanks Dorkys for sharing “Coping With Couples’ here’s a following:
Third String, Fifth Wheel, sometimes ‘Seven. From half past eight ‘til way past Eleven.
The surrogate dancer, so pals don’t sweat; appending table mate, so seats don’t get (taken).
Volunteer to do a Bar run, when the Hostess moves slow; Maybe dip outside to see the Moon glow!
Some tunes get the whole table up- movin! Then it’s all Really Cool to be One of the Groovin.
On occasion, when you don’t plan to attend, you get the call from your Coupled Friends,
“Better ‘Get your ‘Butt’ in gear’, we’ll be there in a flash”. You give in, feeling guilty, ‘cause they start talkin’ trash.
So, We smile, we chat, dance and sway; Remembering we can Crash, til noon the next day. )

Top of the Morning to yas!!! It is Holy week for Christians of different sects, so many of us are not celebrating St. Pat’s Day. I chose to, and I’m a mutt, African American, Blackfoot, Welsh descent. I see it as a day of Unity and Peace. We need many of these days/weeks/months/years! So for all the nayer sayers, Happy Saint Patrick’s Day!!!
